Jurojin collaboration with violinist Anna Phoebe becomes official + upcoming gigs

Greetings everyone!

Today we are oh so very excited to announce that Jurojin have teamed up with violinist extraordinaire Anna Phoebe in a very special project…

We first came across Anna’s playing in Oi Va Voi, a fantastic band from the UK, which soon led us to discover her solo material, including the brilliantly heavy Rise of The Warrior album. The virtuosity and effortless versatility in her playing was an immediate attraction to us and we knew from that point on that we somehow had to collaborate. Anna has toured the world with the likes of Jon Lord (Deep Purple), Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Roxy Music, amongst many more, and it is not hard to see why. Please read/ see/ hear more of her at www.annaphoebe.com

Following a chance meeting back in 2009 Anna joined us on stage during a low-key acoustic gig in London in a semi-improvised jam (can be seen on youtube), and we have since shared a mutual appreciation for each other’s music - Anna has now played with us a dozen times and in a similar fashion we have acted as her backing band for all of her solo outings in the past year and a half.

Back in March of this year we made a decision to make our collaboration official and started work on a very eclectic and special project, aptly titled “Anna Phoebe and Jurojin.” Now 11 songs deep, we are gearing up to record a full album in November of this year to be released at some point in spring 2012 and will be heading out in support of this release shortly thereafter. What does it sound like? Well you will have to stay tuned to find out. What we can tell you is that it is a fully instrumental album and a chance for us all to delve into some new musical territory. Jurojin is, and has always been about musical exploration.

We will be working on this in conjunction with our Jurojin activities – worry not, we are still headed into the studio in September/ October to record new JUROJIN material – we are very much moving forward with the band and we just CANNOT wait to share our new tracks with you.

Now we just have double the diversity of material to release upon you! As with the upcoming Jurojin material, we will also be closely keeping you posted on all studio reports/ live vids/ sessions, etc for our Anna Phoebe album.

You can catch us live with Anna Phoebe at the below dates:

September 3rd : Weyfest UK main stage (Anna Phoebe and Jurojin)

September 27th: The Bedford, Balham. (Anna Phoebe and Jurojin)

October 1st: The Garage, Highbury, in support to the Von Hertzen Brothers (Jurojin ft. Anna Phoebe)

With loads more to come!

Boom.

Til next time,

Nic, Sim, James, Yves, and Francesco

Demos nicely under way

Happy Tuesday peeps.

Busy as ever here in the UK getting new material ready for our studio dates starting second week of September in London’s industrial east end. We have been sorting out rough demos of all tracks in our very own NicsBedroom studios, and so far, so very good… Vocals, guitar, tabla, violin, and bass are complete, and we have been sorting out drums for the last couple of days.

For those of you who are curious as to our demo’ing process, it’s fairly simple.. Everything is recorded onto Logic. Guitars go through an amp and are mic’d (no pods or any processing), vocals and tabla are also mic’d, whilst bass is straight D.I with an amp simulator. For drums we have recently gotten a hold of an old Roland V-drums kit which we are able to run straight into Logic. Those of you who live in London (or any other big city really) will know that having an acoustic drum kit in your flat is rarely an option unfortunately!

We use these demos for two main purposes. Firstly to be able to “listen” to the actual song and tweak/ change/ endlessly refine it until we feel it is complete. Secondly, once we deem it ready, all files are bounced as individual instruments which subsequently get used as guide tracks in the actual studio. Unfortunately we do not have the luxury of using studio time to do pre-production or to play the tracks all together so this is a means to save time.

We start our first studio sessions in 3 weeks’ time or so, and will be documenting the process on this very blog, so stay tuned! We should have some teasers for you shortly as well!

August 2011 Update

Greetings everyone!!

It has been a long time since we have properly been able to update you on all recent happenings within the Jurojin camp. We have a lot of exciting projects in the works, so we have decided to set up this blog in order to be able to keep you all in the loop much more frequently as well as much more thoroughly. A few lines here and there on a facebook update is great but this blog will be a means to interact with you all more personally and to post a lot of nice content/ photos/ videos, etc…

We will be posting a bit of news over the next few weeks and we have a few nice blog posts on the way but in this very first one we’d like to share with you the first bit of news (well it’s a bit of an obvious one): we are currently working on new material, and will be hitting the studio in October!! The dates are all booked so this is 100% confirmed, not one of these vague “we will be recording soon” updates which never come to fruition!

These recordings will also mark the first studio work featuring our good friend and violinist extraordinaire Anna Phoebe (www.annaphoebe.com). Anna has appeared live with us many times over the last year and a half, and we cannot wait to finally have a proper recording with her.

We will be updating this blog regularly, so keep checking back for recording updates, studio takes, random rants, Tabla madness, and many more news.

Next-up: Gig announcements, update video and photos, and more.

Stay tuned everyone, Jurojin is back with a vengeance!
